#RoomForChange

Post Series: #RoomForChange

In April of 2015 as a part of the Disney Friends for Change grant, Briana had a chance to spend time with 9 young people who live at the YMCA in Newark. During that time she learned more about them and their living conditions. She discovered that children lived there without parents or guardians. Understanding that they could not have pets, and being a serious animal lover, Briana coordinate a day at a local Petty Zoo where youth had a chance to play with animals. This year she is committed to making sure that these unaccompanied minors have a beautiful place to stay and share in all the same joys as those who have permanent homes. Briana has created #RoomForChange project. She has adopted five rooms at the YMCA in Newark–two rooms for girls, two for boys and one unisex room. By April 30th, Briana will transform those rooms into a comfy place to call home. Because Briana is an animal lover, each room will have a theme and color associated with an animal.

Each room will be equipped with a twin bed, dress, desk, chair and lamp.
