Horses

Ney BAM Fans! Today’s blog is about Horses. Get it? Ney? LOL

I think that horses are majestic beasts, very beautiful, and they are really strong. Oh, and have you ever noticed that on tv shows someone always wishes for a pony?

There are over 350 different breeds of horses. One of my favorite breeds is the Clydesdale horse. Clydesdales have fettering on their hooves that make them look special. Horses can be used to work on farms, in sports such as Polo, and also in races. For the very first Kentucky Derby (horse-race), a horse named “Aristides” was led to victory by African Americans, Ansel Williamson and Oliver Lewis. Williamson was a thoroughbred horse racing trainer, who was born a slave in Virginia, and became well known throughout the South for his training expertise. Williamson was inducted into the National Museum of Racing’s Hall of Fame in 1998. Oliver Lewis was the African American jockey who rode “Aristides” to win that first Kentucky Derby. He was only 19 years old. Isn’t that amazing!

That’s it for this week BAM Fans. Saddle up and enjoy BAM’s ride through Black History Month.
